Best device for vr?

We have a number of cardboard v2 at our school and we are looking to buy some devices to view cospaces on. We dont really require phones and i tried the ipod touch and the screen is just too small as the sides of the phone can be seen in the viewer. Any suggestions for devices to view on?

I can’t recommend a specific device because there are many good devices out there with a good price (Android) and new ones are coming out all the time. So some current research is required.

The optimal screen size for most cardboards is 5 to 6 inches (6 inches for cardboard v2). The important thing is that the phone runs on Android version 4.4 or higher and that it has a physical built-in gyroscope sensor.

Hey @Outpost_31 & @Benny. As far as I know, we are using a couple of Xiaomi Mi 5 when we do workshops. This phone costs around $280. A good price point compared to the power of this device. https://ebay.com/itm/Original-5-5-Xiaomi-Mi-5X-Mi5X-M5X-Snapdragon-625-Octa-Core-4GB-64GB-Smartphone-/162612951943

The Xiaomi VR viewer is a great choice over cardboard in terms of durability and ease of use.

ASUS Zenphone II (just the II) works fairly well and can be had for under $200 new.

What phones do you recommend buying to use the current Augmented Reality feature of the cospaces app, and the upcoming support for MergeCUBE.
Thanks

Hi @arivera,

Thanks for the question!

At the moment we can recommend the following to view in AR:
Smartphones with Android’s AR Core technology, including the latest Samsung, Google and Xiao mi phones, or with Apple’s AR Kit technology, including the iPhone 6, 7, 8, X and iPad tablets of 2017 and 2018, can be used for AR.

And to be used with the MERGE Cube:
Recent smartphones with the CoSpaces Edu app, including smartphones using iOS 9+ and Android 4.4+ can be used to view AR content on the MERGE Cube.

As this is a very fast-changing market, I’m also copying the link where you can always check the latest information:

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

I was hoping you had more specific specs because I ran into a couple of snags on this.

For example, the Samsung Galaxy S8 seems to fit your description. It is also listed in in Google’s ARCore Supported Devices list (https://developers.google.com/ar/discover/supported-devices), and Amazon has a good deal on it: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S8-Unlocked-64GB/dp/B06Y14T5YW/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1531485849&sr=1-1&keywords=galaxy+s8&dpID=417dUvGor3L&preST=SX300_QL70&dpSrc=srch

However, I then found this little note in Google’s site:

“Samsung devices with a model number ending in 0 or 8 are not supported, e.g. SM-G9600.”

Then, looking for this information in the Amazon site for the Galaxy S8 above, I saw this:
galaxyS8

So, after all, that model seems not be compatible.

Something similar happened with the Huawei P20 Lite. It comes in three models: ANE-LX1, ANE-LX2, ANE-LX2J, AND ANE-LX3. All models come with Android 8.0. BUT, the ANE-LX2 models does not have a gyroscope (even though the ANE-LX2J does)

So, I hope you can see why I was asking.
Thanks
